The Health-Care Domain shows still features that are typical for the information systems (IS) domain in industry of the 1970ies. Also, there are standards, like HL7, hospital IS in general are fragmented lacking integration. Since a couple of years process-oriented views, like Clinical pathways and evidence based medicine are widely discussed. Nevertheless, their deployment still remains in the stage of requirement definition and development. Similar deficits are reported for planning and control on the operational level, not to mention planning and control on the more strategic level.

Besides the old problems, which are widely known, some new problems arose stemming from recent developments. For example, the integration of different actors of the health care domain establishes a major issue of future IS. Electronic Patient records and their exchange, the introduction of Patient Data Cards, and the problem how models of integrated care and disease management should look like are some of the topics discussed intensively.

Mobile devices have the potential to overcome traditional organizational structures in hospitals and in the healthcare sector. Their integration in connection with autonomous subsystems, like intelligent agents, will allow for better care and medical attendance in standard situations as well as in emergency cases.

This track aims to promote research and scientific exchange related to still unsolved problems of Health Information Systems and to bring together practitioners, scientists, and researchers.

Papers, discussing topics related to future developments in Hospital Information Systems or showing found solutions are very welcome. The following keywords may give some orientation but are not meant to be exhaustive:
